Announcement of new TOAR publications

IGAC’s Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report is being published as a series of papers in the peer-reviewed, open-access journal, Elementa : Science of the Anthropocene. The papers are appearing in a Special Feature of Elementa as they are accepted for publication, with two new papers available this month :

TOAR-Model Performance provides a review of the current generation of atmospheric chemistry models and assesses their skill in simulating historical and present-day global ozone distributions at the surface and in the free troposphere.

Young*, P. J., V. Naik*, A. M. Fiore, A. Gaudel, J. Guo, M. Y. Lin, J. L. Neu, D. D. Parrish, H. E. Rieder, J. L. Schnell, S. Tilmes, O. Wild, L. Zhang, J. R. Ziemke, J. Brandt, A. Delcloo, R. M. Doherty, C. Geels, M. I. Hegglin, L. Hu, U. Im, R. Kumar, A. Luhar, L. Murray, D. Plummer, J. Rodriguez, A. Saiz-Lopez, M. G. Schultz, M. T. Woodhouse and G. Zeng (2018), Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report : Assessment of global-scale model performance for global and regional ozone distributions, variability, and trends, Elem Sci Anth. 2018 ;6(1):10. DOI : http://doi.org/10.1525/elementa.265

Utilizing the TOAR Surface Ozone Database, TOAR-Health presents ozone observations from nearly 5000 monitoring sites world-wide in the form of five ozone metrics relevant to the study of ozone’s impact on human health. A series of maps reveals the global distribution and trends of these observed metrics, highlighting regions of the world where surface ozone levels exceed air quality standards and where air quality is improving or degrading.
